The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, on the eastbound side, about 1,000 feet east of Nicolls Road in Holtsville.

Police say Matthew Sheehy, age 46, of East Setauket, was driving a 2022 Dodge pickup when he struck a disabled 2010 Chrysler Town and Country parked on the right shoulder.

The impact sent the Chrysler across the lanes, where it was struck by a 2018 Honda CRV.

The Chrysler’s driver, a 27-year-old Mastic Beach man, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

A passenger in the Honda, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old East Hampton man, and a female passenger were treated and released from Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue.

Sheehy was evaluated at Stony Brook University Hospital before his arrest. He faces charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol and will be arraigned at a later date.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 as the investigation continues.
